Antonian High School in San Antonio, Texas, like La Salle High School, was primarily the work of Archbishop Lucey in his expansion of catholic high school education for the citizens of San Antonio. Once again, he asked the Brothers of the Christian Schools to staff the school which opened in 1964. Unlike La Salle, Antonian was on the opposite side of San Antonio, being in the highly affluent area of north San Antonio. The school met with approval and was a very successful institution. Due to some members of the faculty, its dramatic and music endeavors were equally well received with the academic performance.
However, the declining in personnel of the Brothers of the Christian Schools determined that our association with the school would be relatively short-lived. Accordingly, after duly informing the Archbishop that the Brothers of the Christian Schools would no longer be available to administer and help staff this school, the Brothers withdrew in 1971. The school continued to operate after the withdrawal of the Brothers.
