Robert C. Dougherty was born on November 24, 1919 to Wilhelmina and Thomas Dougherty. He had two brothers, Thomas and Michael. He entered the Juniorate in July 10, 1933 and graduated in 3 years and received the habit on September 7, 1936. He attended Catholic University and graduated in 3 years with a BA in French and awarded the French Literature Medal. For the next 25 years, he taught a lot of different subjects, including religion, French, chemistry, physics, geometry and Latin, at De La Salle, New York (1940; 1947), St. Augustine, Brooklyn (1941), La Salle Miliary Academy (1955). He was appointed Director and Principal at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse 1952-55, De La Salle, New York (1955) and Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx (1959). In 1965 he was elected Auxiliary Visitor in Nyeri, Kenya and spent the next few decades in Africa.
In 1994, after suffering a stroke, Brother Peter returned to the US. He died on October 20, 2001. He is buried at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Marlboro, NJ.
